Football clubs and managers have to disappoint their players every week.
Professional footballers are in the game to be starring in each match, yet only 11 can be given that opportunity so more than half the squad is not getting what they want. When players are left out too often, or in particular games, or are not properly made to feel welcomed when they are left out, it is understandable if they wish to leave.
Nobody at Manchester City would begrudge Kyle Walker a move if he opts for Bayern Munich this summer. The former Tottenham defender has given everything over six years at the club and as well as the new challenge that the Bundesliga offers there is the pain at not starting the Champions League final.
Walker had not been first choice for the whole season but had worked his way back into the side thanks to injuries elsewhere to the point where it was a minor surprise to see him left out in Istanbul. For the biggest game in the history of the club and the players, Walker had to watch most of it from the sidelines.

That must have stung, although Pep Guardiola did at least make sure that Ilkay Gundogan allowed Walker to address his teammates before the game. It was a brilliant speech too, telling them that they had his dream in their hands.
Just as City moved to mitigate any potential upset at the selection decision, they have responded to interest from Bayern. As The Sun reported this week, the new contract drawn up for him is enough to suggest the club can see another two years of him being a valued member of the squad.
