Manchester City's English stars Jack Grealish and Phil Foden were left with bad cuts from the Three Lions' match with North Macedonia.
There had been concerns beforehand about the safety of the Tose Proeski Arena's pitch in Skopje, and more criticism arrived after the full-time whistle in England's 1-1 draw.
Grealish was just one who complained of the state of the surface, branding it "awful" and explaining he and his club team-mates wounds.

Kostas Tsimikas has revealed the reason he missed Greece's final Euro 24 qualifier against France was not down to injury.
When the full-back's name was not included on Gus Poyet's team sheet ahead of kick-off, fear began to set in that Jurgen Klopp would be without his only senior left back option for the trip to the Etihad Stadium.
However, Tsimikas was not injured, and only missed the game as to not pick up a suspension that would rule him out of a "more important" play-off fixture to reach the finals in Germany.
