Manchester United supporters took a moment to taunt Manchester City and Everton over their potential relegation in relation to alleged financial breaches. The Toffees hosted the Red Devils in their first game since they received a ten-point deduction in the previous week.
The punishment came following an independent panel reviewing alleged breaches brought to light by the Premier League in March. The hearing was underway in October, with the decision finally made and revealed in November that kicked off discussions surrounding the huge deduction.
The commission claimed that Everton made a loss of roughly £20million over the allowed losses of £105million for any given three-year period. Any decision is still subject to appeal, which will bring about a final decision on the deduction that could be the difference between relegation and survival for the club.
Elsewhere there remains questions over other financial cases in the Premier League, with Manchester City charged with an alleged 115 breaches of rules. There's also Chelsea that will be watching from afar, having seen recent allegations made against former owner Roman Abramovich, though there are no charges made at this stage.
In the mean time, the only thing that can be gauged is the severity of the punishment for Everton and how that could impact them. There was a protest from the supporters at Goodison Park, holding up posters with «corrupt» plastered over them, aimed towards the Premier League.
