Man Utd dwarf Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham as Premier League wage bills revealed
Manchester United currently hold the position of having the highest wage bill in the Premier League, with Manchester City second in the the list for weekly squad expenditure above Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham, according to the latest figures.
These statistics have been revealed following the agreement by English top-flight clubs to implement a strict spending cap from the 2025/26 season. This will limit clubs' expenditure on transfers, wages and agent fees to five times the amount earned by the bottom club in TV and prize money.
This new 'anchoring' approach is set to replace the existing profit and sustainability rules for Premier League clubs. Interestingly, City were among the clubs who voted against the introduction of the spending cap, along with United and Aston Villa.
Chelsea were the only team to abstain. This means that clubs will need to be more prudent with their future spending, which could potentially lead to fewer high-value contracts being offered to players. According to Capology, United currently have the highest wage bill in the league, shelling out nearly £4million per week on their first-team squad.
Casemiro is reported to be the club's top earner, pocketing £350,000 weekly. He is closely followed by Raphael Varane (£340,000) and Marcus Rashford (£300,000).
At City, Kevin De Bruyne is said to be the top earner with a weekly wage of £400,000, followed by Erling Haaland who reportedly earns £375,000 per week. Stefan Ortega, Oscar Bobb, Jeremy Doku, Sergio Gomez, Scott Carson and Rico Lewis are the only first-team stars earning less than £100,000 per week.
