Manchester City and Wolves reach final £53m agreement for Matheus Nunes

Manchester City have finalised a £53million move for Matheus Nunes.

City had reached a verbal agreement on Wednesday over a £47.2m deal, but terms changed overnight and Pep Guardiola's side will now pay more, with payments spread over a longer time period.

Wolves wanted in excess of £60m for Nunes and City had threatened to walk away but the Molineux club are happy with the revised structure of the deal for the 25-year-old, who had been refusing to train.

City have been keen on Nunes since deciding to abandon their pursuit of West Ham's Lucas Paqueta.

Wolves had rejected the Premier League champions' initial bid of £47m, prompting Nunes to stay away from training, but City's willingness to walk away from the deal altogether resulted in Wolves softening their hardline.

After their 5-0 win over Blackpool in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, boss Gary O'Neil said he still expected Nunes to be at the club after the September 1 deadline.

But with the final elements of the deal now agreed he has been given permission to go for a medical with Man City.

Although Nunes performed well only in patches last season, he still attracted interest from Liverpool and Wolves have always been confident they would be able to turn a profit on him following the £38m deal with Sporting in summer 2022.

And during Nunes' days with Sporting, City boss Pep Guardiola described him as 'one of the best in the world today'.
