Sir Jim Ratcliffe could soon finally have a stake in Manchester United after dramatic developments in the takeover saga over the weekend.
The Glazers announced last November that they would be "seeking strategic alternatives", leading to Ratcliffe and Qatar-backed Sheikh Jassim making offers to try and persuade the US owners to sell up and leave Old Trafford.
Sheikh Jassim reportedly made one final attempt to convince the Glazers to sell the club last week but was informed his offer, believed to be around £5billion, was short of their asking price, leading to him withdrawing from the process. Now Sir Jim Ratcliffe's revised bid for 25% of the club could be ratified at a board meeting as early as this week.
Reports claim the 25 per cent would be the first step in Ratcliffe's Ineos Group eventually taking full control of the club, but would at first mean the Glazers remaining in charge, something that many fans are dead set against.

The 18-year-old has scored three goals in five games across all competitions to put European clubs on high alert. Given United's well-documented issues with current wide players in recent times, a move for Diao seems plausible.
Born in Senegal, the youngster represents Spain at under-19 level and only made his Betis debut this season. United scouts are reportedly monitoring his situation.
Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano claims Erik ten Hag could finally cash in on Anthony Martial. The Frenchman may even leave as early as January after proving ineffective so far this season.
