Inter Miami boss Gerardo 'Tata' Martino has claimed Lionel Messi is 'much happier' following his exit from Paris Saint-Germain.
After spending two years at the Ligue 1 champions, the Argentine World Cup winner announced earlier this year that he would be departing PSG, snubbing a move back to his former side Barcelona. instead joining Inter Miami.
He moved to the MLS outfit on a lucrative contract that is intertwined with deals with Apple and adidas and also reportedly included an option to potentially buy a stake in the club once his playing career is finished.
Following the move, the 36-year-old opened up on his time in Paris, noting that he had some difficulties adapting to life in France, as well as claiming there was a disconnect between himself and the fans.
'The truth is that it was a very difficult adaptation, much more than I expected,' Messi said in an interview with BeIN sports via CNN.
'Apart from the fact that I had people I knew in the dressing room and I had relations with them, it was complicated to adapt to a new change. I arrived late, I didn't have a pre-season. I had to adapt to a new city, which was difficult for my family and for me.'
But it appears, according to his new manager and former Barcelona colleague, Martino, Messi is in a much better place following his move to the MLS.
'You see it in the field; I don't have to tell you, but he's a lot calmer, much happier,' Martino said speaking on the Argentine, per GOAL. 'Being happy also has to do with where he's been.'
Martino has previously worked with Messi when he took charge of Barcelona for a season between 2013 and 2014, before going on to become the Argentina national side's manager the following year.
