Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has provided an update on Thomas Partey's injury after the holding midfielder was left out of his side's UEFA Champions League clash against Sevilla on Tuesday evening. The former Atletico Madrid star missed a number of weeks earlier this term due to a groin problem before returning to action against Manchester City earlier this month.
football.london understands that Partey sustained a thigh injury in training on Monday. A club statement read: «Thomas Partey misses out on tonight's game with a muscle issue.»
Now, Arteta has given more information, admitting that he is unaware how long the 30-year-old will be on the sidelines for. Speaking to TNT Sports about the Ghana international's issue, Arteta said: «Thomas picked up an injury yesterday in training.
»Unfortunately it’s a muscle injury. We don’t know the extent of it — a big miss for us."
For Tuesday evening's outing to Spain, the Gunners manager opted to field Jorginho as his starting number six. Meanwhile, club-record signing Declan Rice and captain Martin Odegaard were deployed slightly further forward in midfield.
