Inter Milan were crowned Serie A champions for a 20th time after a 2-1 win against rivals AC Milan.
Inter Milan have become champions of Italy for the 20th time as city rivals AC Milan were beaten in a historic derby at the San Siro.
Goals from Francesco Acerbi and Marcus Thuram secured a 2-1 win for Simone Inzaghi's side, whose total of titles is now one more than their city rivals who have 19. Inter are now officially the second most successful side in Italian history after Juventus with their 36 titles, and the success also marks the first time ever that one of the Milan sides has secured the title in a derby.
Ex-Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori pulled one back for Milan with 10 minutes remaining, but Inter held on for the win, with Milan's Theo Hernandez and Davide Calabria and Inter's Denzel Dumfries all sent off for clashes in the dying moments.
Inter are now a massive 17 points clear of second placed Milan in the table with just five matches of the season remaining.
Acerbi opened the scoring in the 18th minute when he was left all alone in the penalty area to nod home a Federico Dimarco corner which had been flicked on by Benjamin Pavard.
French forward Thuram then doubled the lead five minutes into the second half when he cut inside from the left and buried a low shot past compatriot Mike Maignan.
Tomori set nerves jangling amongst the Inter fans when he headed home from close range with 10 minutes remaining, but Milan were disappointing on the night.
The historic nature of the possible success wasn't lost on Inter before the game, with ex-Inter man Andrea Ranocchia saying: “I’ve seen a lot of incredible things in the derby.
