Morocco's En-Nesyri celebrates his goal from the BENCH after getting subbed off

Morocco forward Youssef En-Nesyri was forced to celebrate his goal against Tanzania from the bench during a bizarre moment in the 2023 AFCON.

En-Nesyri found the back of the net late on during his side's 3-0 win in their group stage opener, after placing home an effort from close range.

The strike was initially ruled out for offside by on-pitch officials, leaving En-Nesyri and the rest of the Morocco side distraught.

To make sure no mistakes were made, the decision went to VAR and, during their analysis of the goal, Morocco opted to make some substitutions.

En-Nesyri, Hakim Ziyech and Azzedine Ounahi were all replaced by Ayoub El Kaabi, Sofiane Boufal and Amine Harit, while VAR came to a decision.

After En-Nesyri had been taken off, VAR ruled that the goal should stand due to the forward being in an onside position.

Attention quickly turned to the Sevilla forward, who was then sat on the subtitutes bench, as players and staff quickly gathered round him.

Earlier in the game, Azzedine Ounahi and Romain Saiss had given Morocco a two-goal lead in their first match at AFCON.

En-Nesyri's incident isn't a stand-alone in the tournament either, after Guinea took a shock lead in bizarre circumstances against Cameroon during the first half of their opening Africa Cup of Nations match on Monday.

Guinea are one of the tournament's minnows but what they lack in technical skill make up for in physicality as their opening goal against Cameroon showed.

There was chaos in the box after Cameroon goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa did well to deny an initial strong shot that caused the ball to break free.

Defender Harold Moukoudi lost out as he leapt into a 50/50 challenge to win the ball back and in-turn gave Guinea striker Mohamed Bayo a close-range tap-in.
