Mykhailo Mudryk explains his two Chelsea non-negotiables instilled by Mauricio Pochettino
Mykhailo Mudryk looks likely to be one of the Chelsea stars to benefit most from the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino. The 22-year-old endured a challenging first six months at Stamford Bridge following his £62million move from Shakhtar Donetsk, but could be on for a breakout season at the Blues.
Despite carrying a small knock, Mudryk chose to partake in Ukraine's Under-21 European championship campaign following the conclusion of the 2022/23 season. The minor injury saw him miss all of the group stage action, but he was on hand to step up in key moments for his national team in the knockout rounds before they were eliminated from the tournament by Spain in the semi-finals.
Mudryk then linked up with his Chelsea team-mates and Pochettino before heading out to the USA for a pre-season tour. After being omitted from the squad to face Wrexham, alongside Enzo Fernandez and Levi Colwill, Mudryk started the Premier League Summer Series opener against Brighton and combined excellently with Nicolas Jackson to score his first goal in Blue.
«Of course, for Jackson for Mudryk it is important to score, for Nkunku also,» Pochettino said after the 4-3 victory. «I think players, attacking players need to score and they need to get their confidence and trust in themselves. Always it is important to score goals and then of course, we are going to try to improve because I think today with a little bit more capacity to stay calm maybe we can create more chances and score more goals.
Mudyrk also sent a clear warning to Chelsea's Premier League rivals after the flowing move between him and Jackson led to a goal with Owen Hargreaves noting how effortlessly the duo combined as Mudryk replied: „With Nico? Just imagine, that was our first game
