PSG playmaker Neymar (31) is expected to become the latest high-profile football player to be lured by a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia. Les Parisiens and PIF-funded Al-Hilal have agreed upon a total package worth €100m for the 31-year-old striker. Neymar was told by PSG head coach Luis Enrique that he was surplus to requirements in the French capital during a meeting last week. The former Barcelona man had long hoped he would reunite with the Blaugranas, but no deal was found between PSG and his former club. L’Équipe understands that the Brazilian only needs now to pass his medical and put pen to paper to seal his switch to the Riyadh-based outfit.
The French publication adds that Neymar were willing to lower his wages with a view to ease his return to Barcelona. Given the impossibility of reuniting with Xavi and the La Liga champions, Neymar reluctantly agreed to move to the Gulf kingdom. The player PSG bought €222m from Barcelona six years ago will sign a two-year deal with Al-Hilal. His bumper contract includes an option to trigger a further year. L’Équipe understands that Neymar has no intention of activating said option. However, he has set his sights on returning to Barcelona in 2025. He would be a free agent and 33 by then.
