Prescot Cables achieved promotion to the Pitching In Northern Premier League for the first time since 2008/09.
After failing to qualify through automatic promotion, the club had to play two play-off matches against local sides Bootle FC and City of Liverpool FC.
And Cables overcame Bootle 1-0, after a 100th minute winner and then had a comfortable ride to victory against City of Liverpool, where a first half sending-off for the Purps gifted Cables the platform to go on to win 2-0 and achieve promotion.
Throughout their season, a key standout for Prescot is the overwhelming support they have received from the community. Post pandemic, the club have doubled their average attendances and are almost entirely volunteer ran.
Lee Fisher, Club Director of Prescot Cables, has spoken on the amazing support the club have received throughout the season and the importance of the community volunteers.
He told the ECHO: “We’re entirely volunteer ran, aside from our players, management, and bar staff, everything that we do is done through volunteers and we couldn’t do what we’ve done without the people in Prescot coming together.
“Undoubtedly, of the local sides, we had the highest average attendance in the division with 780 throughout the regular season. So, we knew that home advantage would be important – we sold 2034 tickets for our semi-final, and 2070 tickets for the final, so to have 4100 people in the space of six days coming to watch us it was huge.
“That home boost of having so many Cables supporters and so many people wearing amber and black… it was just mind boggling to see how good it was”.
