Oscar Bobb set for new Man City deal after impressing Pep in his debut season

Manchester City are close to tying down Oscar Bobb to a new long-term contract.

Mail Sport understands the 20-year-old is set to soon commit his future to the Premier League champions after breaking into Pep Guardiola’s side this season.

Bobb, already a Norway international, netted his first league goal with a dramatic last-gasp winner at Newcastle United last month.

Guardiola has been impressed with the youngster’s application in training and gave him a first league start in the midweek victory over Brentford.

Sporting director Txiki Begiristain had told Guardiola that the winger must be promoted to the first team last summer after standing out for the Under 23s over two years.

He hasn’t looked back since Begiristain’s call, making 16 appearances in all competitions and with a Champions League goal to his name.

Bobb has been with City since 2019, signed from Valerenga in his native Norway after an earlier move to Porto fell apart because FIFA refused to provide the relevant paperwork.

Guardiola has backed Bobb to remain at the Etihad Stadium for ‘many, many years’ while the player is relishing his opportunity.

‘Newcastle was one of the greatest of my life, honestly,’ Bobb said.

‘This season has been a big step up. Playing in this team, it gets a lot easier because (while) you're not always dominating, usually you see a lot of the ball.

‘For me as a player I'm more of a ball player than a runner and that helps. Being in this group and with these people helps me.’
