Stade Brestois attacking midfielder Pierre Lees-Melou (30) has been named Ligue 1 player of the month, beating the likes of Olympique de Marseille’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Lille OSC’s Jonathan David to the award.
The Frenchman, formerly of OGC Nice and Norwich City, netted twice in four Ligue 1 appearances as the Breton side endured an indifferent month results wise, with impressive wins over Marseille and Strasbourg punctuated by disappointing draws against Nice and Clermont Foot.
Brest are having the season of their lives, currently sitting in second place in the league, eight points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain and on course to qualify for European competition. With a favourable fixtures against FC Lorient and FC Metz before tough assignments at a resurgent Olympique Lyonnais and at home to Monaco, Eric Roy’s side will look to hammer home their advantage and make history in qualifying for European football and achieving their highest ever league finish.
