It has taken some time but Tottenham are finally set to strengthen in defence for Ange Postecoglou. Very much a problem position for Spurs over the past 12 months and top priority in the summer window, Micky van de Ven is about to sign on the dotted line at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium following two successful seasons with Wolfsburg.
A player with all the qualities to be a huge hit in Postecoglou's backline due to his pace, impressive passing and quality on the ball, the Dutchman will sign a long-term contract in north London after Tottenham struck a £43million deal with the German club. Set to undergo his medical at the club on Monday, van de Ven was in attendance at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for Sunday's pre-season friendly against Shakhtar.
Meeting plenty of fans as they came over to his seat to take a picture with him, the Netherlands Under-21 ace will have been very impressed with what he saw from his new teammates as they hit Shakhtar for five.
What Tottenham fans did for Postecoglou and Kane
Sunday's pre-season match against Shakhtar presented Postecoglou with the chance to take charge at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the very first time. An opportunity he had been waiting for ever since swapping Parkhead for north London, the Australian was given a huge ovation when he emerged form the tunnel moments before kick-off.
With both teams waiting in the tunnel, Postecoglou stepped out onto the pitch and applauded all four stands as everyone inside the stadium gave him a tremendous welcome. A few minutes later and Harry Kane was given his own ovation as his name was read out on the PA system.
