Pundit aims brutal dig at Arsenal after Jonny Evans jibes as Manchester United defender praised
Garth Crooks has defended Jonny Evans after some Arsenal fans mocked him for his performance in Manchester United's 3-1 defeat to the Gunners, adding that he's "not entirely sure what Arsenal fans know about top-class centre-backs anyway".
Evans was a surprise inclusion in the United starting XI after Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire were sidelined through injury and Raphael Varane was only fit enough for a place on the bench. However, those who were concerned about the Northern Irishman's inclusion had no reason to fear as the 35-year-old slotted into the backline seamlessly.
The defender also had a hand in the only goal of the game as he provided an exceptional assist for Bruno Fernandes' volley in first-half stoppage time. Evans' performance led to him being named in the BBC's team of the week by Crooks.

Explaining his decision, Crooks said: "I overheard a conversation recently where an Arsenal supporter said how surprised he was to see Evans come on against his team a few weeks ago and I must say so was I. However, he went on to suggest that Evans was, at the tender age of 35, no longer good enough for Manchester United.
"Well, the point of view couldn't have been further from the truth. Evans was the star performer against Burnley.
"The Northern Ireland international had a headed goal disallowed, played the most exquisite pass to Bruno Fernandes to volley home and helped United keep a clean sheet. I'm not entirely sure what Arsenal fans know about top-class centre-backs anyway. The last ones they had were Tony Adams, Steve Bould and Sol Campbell and they all played into their 30s."
