Rangers have named Philippe Clement as their new manager.
talkSPORT reported on Sunday morning that Clement's main rival for the job Kevin Muscat had been told he is no longer in the running.
Final interviews took place after Clement and Muscat had been identified as the two leading candidates to replacement Michel Beale.
He said: «I am honoured to have been appointed as the new manager of Rangers Football Club and I’d like to thank the board for giving me this opportunity.
»I am hugely excited by this chance to achieve success at one of Europe’s most iconic clubs across four competitions in what remains of this season and beyond.
“I am looking forward to meeting with the players in the coming days and to meeting our supporters at next Saturday’s home match with Hibernian, as we set out together to create a successful, winning Rangers.”
The Belgian coach won the race to land the job in at Rangers, having been on their radar after leaving his post as Monaco boss at the end of last season.
Clement spent 18 months at the club but a disappointing Ligue 1 campaign, where they finished sixth, cost him his job.
The 49-year-old, who had a stint at Coventry City during his playing days, found managerial success in his homeland, winning the top-flight title with Genk and twice with Club Brugge.
Former Millwall and Wolves defender Muscat spent one season at Ibrox as a player during the 2002/03 campaign, clocking up 22 appearances for the Gers.
He has since gone on to carve out a respectable management career in Australia and more recently in Japan.
Scott Parker was also among the candidates considered by Rangers over replacing Beale, but he is taking some time before making a return to the dugout.
