Alan Browne: The Corkman expected to be up against Kylian Mbappe but instead found Theo Hernandez running at him. Battled well in what looked like a weak spot for France to target and escaped with some credit. 6
Nathan Collins: Made one trademark lung-busting run only for the pass to never arrive but Brentford’s record signing defended astutely up against some of the world’s finest players. 6
Shane Duffy: Typically combative and all-action as the central member of the back five but grew increasingly exasperated as the evening progressed and Ireland became more ragged. Failed to threaten from set pieces. 6
John Egan: Captain looked stretched from early on and was evidently not fully fit. Made a solid block to deny Kylian Mbappe but the ball ended up at Marcus Thuram’s feet for France’s second goal. 5
Enda Stevens: An exhausting 45 minutes up against Ousmane Dembele, who attempted to turn the Stoke City man inside out and back again and sought to nutmeg every opportunity. Dealt with a difficult assignment stoically but removed at half-time with an injury. 5
