Erik ten Hag's Manchester United repeated the same mistakes against Chelsea that left Rio Ferdinand and Jamie Carragher recently questioning both the manager's tactics and the players' mentality.
Ten Hag's side have been heavily criticised this season, not only for their results but their performances as well. United have often looked disorganised out of possession, allowing relegation strugglers Brentford 31 shots at goal during last Saturday's 1-1 draw, conceding a 99th-minute equaliser to throw away two points.
It was the same story against Chelsea on Thursday evening. United fought back from 2-0 down to lead 3-2, only to concede two late Cole Palmer goals to lose 4-3 at Stamford Bridge, allowing the Blues 28 shots in total.
United face a huge battle to qualify for next season's Champions League as they sit 11 points off the top four, albeit with one game in hand over fourth-placed Aston Villa. Fifth is also set to secure a place in Europe's elite competition, but Tottenham, who currently occupy that position, also have a healthy nine-point advantage over the Reds having played the same number of games.
