Robbie Davies Jr admits his career is on the line when he faces former world super-lightweight champion Sergey Lipinets on Wednesday night.
Davies Jr will make his US debut when he returns to the ring for the first time in over a year in Florida this week. Lipinets, 17-3-1 (13), and Davies Jr, 23-4 (15), will fight at a catchweight of 143lbs in a contest scheduled for 10 rounds.
The 34-year-old was forced to undergo major surgery last March after he sustained a sickening leg and ankle injury when he fought Darragh Foley at the M&S Bank Arena.

Davies Jr had to be carried back to his dressing room, and he then headed to Aintree Hospital, where his worst fears were confirmed. He was operated on by Professor Lyndon Mason the following day and has been out of action since.
But now, as he prepares to return to the ring under the guidance of new trainer Anthony Crolla, Davies Jr admits that only a win at the ProBox TV Events Centre will keep his boxing career alive.
He told Boxing News: “I only want to go into proper fights. You’re not gonna get more proper than him [Lipinets]. The winner goes on and the loser… Well, if I lose, I’d probably call it [a day] then. But I’m not planning on losing.”
Although Davies Jr hasn’t fought for over a year, he warmed up for his showdown with Lipinets by taking part in the M2L Ultramarathon on Good Friday in aid of Claire House. Alongside close friends Jay Murray, Jay Goody, Tj Burke and Brad Platt, Davies Jr managed to raise just under £4,000 for the charity.
