Robert Lewandowski sends warning to Bayern Munich over 'never dead' Real Madrid

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has warned former club Bayern Munich that Real Madrid «win games where you can't believe it» ahead of their Champions League showdown.

Bayern host Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night and head into the tie as slight underdogs following a dismal domestic campaign that has seen them surrender their Bundesliga title to Bayer Leverkusen.

Lewandowski scored 344 goals in 375 matches for Bayern before joining Barca in the summer of 2022. His Blaugrana side were recently beaten 3-2 by Madrid in El Clasico thanks to another last-minute winner from Jude Bellingham, and he has issued a warning to his old side as they prepare to do battle with Los Blancos once again.

«It's a very important game for Bayern — after such a difficult season,» Lewandowski told. «They have a chance to reach the final. However, it's a big task. It will be a 50-50 game.

»You can never underestimate Real Madrid. They win games where you can't believe it, where there is no explanation. Real Madrid are never dead. They never give up. They act as a team on the entire pitch. Sometimes you think you're close to winning, but in the end you don't.

«The injuries hit FC Bayern: Without Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry and with an injured Leroy Sane, there's a lack of pace on the wings and options on the bench.

»Nevertheless, Bayern have a chance. They have to do well in the first leg in Munich. The second leg at the Bernabeu can be special, many things from outside have an influence there. That's what I found out recently. My wish is for Bayern to beat Real Madrid. I'll cross the fingers for them."
