Matt Holland and Roy Keane are two legendary Premier League captains — though they had very different styles.
Holland played for Bournemouth, Ipswich and Charlton, skippering each club, picking up the armband almost immediately everywhere he went.
Whereas Keane is one of the most successful captains in the Premier League, leading Manchester United to four titles while he wore the armband — and winning seven in total.
So when the two met at international level, it might come as a surprise they nearly butted heads.
Keane and Holland both played for Republic of Ireland together where the former was the designated skipper while the latter had to make do without the armband.
And speaking to talkSPORT, Holland remembered one incident that has lived long in the memory after infuriating the Red Devils legend.
«When you talk about someone who is demanding, no one would demand more than Roy Keane,» he told Paul Hawksbee and Charlie Baker on talkSPORT.
«I remember a game against Cyprus and we were 4-0 up and he passed me the ball in midfield.
»I gave the ball away and, honestly, they went through, had a shot and [goalkeeper] Shay Given saved it.
«He chased me around the pitch for about three minutes for giving the ball away!
»I said, 'come on Roy, we're 4-0 up! It doesn't really matter, does it?
«But he was so demanding and it did not matter the situation or the opposition.
»He made sure that next time he passed me the ball, I was going to keep hold of it."
Keane and Holland held midfield in a strong Ireland team in 2001 when they beat Cyprus on that day 4-0.
As well as the two Premier League stars, Ian Harte, Steve Finnan, Kevin Kilbane and Steve Staunton also made the line-up.
