Inter Miami draft pick Ryan Carmichael is a former Northern Ireland underage international
Former Portadown manager Matthew Tipton says he’s thrilled Ryan Carmichael has been given a golden opportunity at Inter Miami and he’s confident the 22-year-old will sparkle alongside giants of the game such as Argentina legend Lionel Messi and ex-Barcelona stars Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets.
Tipton and Carmichael worked together at Shamrock Park before the talented youngster accepted a four year soccer scholarship at Hofstra University in New York.
In just a few years, the former Northern Ireland Under-19s ace has progressed from Loughgall and then a spell with the Ports to linking up with David Beckham's Major League Soccer side.

Inter Miami made their move for Carmichael in the MLS SuperDraft, where teams can select the most promising college players.
Tipton, who is now Ards manager, says Carmichael is excited about this new chapter in his career and he expects the former Ports ace to make the most of this amazing opportunity.
“Ryan is brilliant, a talented boy and athletically very good, he glided when he ran,” said former Warrenpoint Town boss Tipton.
“He’s an exciting player to work with and watch. People want to watch exciting players who get you off your feet and he is one of those players.
