Actor Ryan Reynolds, who is about to release his new movie «Deadpool 3,» took the time to demonstrate his passion for soccer.
Reynoldsowns Wrexham FC, based in Wales, which plays in Football League Two, England's fourth soccer league.
Now, the actor surprised everyone by acquiring a significant number of shares in another soccer team, one of the most traditional and oldest in Mexican soccer, Necaxa.
Like with Wrexham, Reynolds acquired shares of the Necaxa along with his partner, Rob McElhenney, to be part of a team that has among its members actress Eva Longoria and former German soccer player Mesut Ozil.
Variety reported that it was Longoria who invited Reynolds to join the group of investors of the team that plays in the state of Aguascalientes, about 280 miles from Mexico City, in the center-north of Mexico.
The purchase of shares by Reynolds generated great expectation, since after becoming the majority shareholder of Wrexham with 95% of the shares, he launched a documentary called «Welcome to Wrexham», which helped to popularize the Welsh team.
Although the purchase of RR McReynolds' shares was reported to be in the minority, it was said to be a significant amount of Necaxa shares.
According to Variety, «the Reynolds-McElhenney connection raises the possibility that Club Necaxa could be the focal point of a TV documentary series like 'Welcome to Wrexham,' which put the historic Welsh club on the pop culture map.
Necaxa is one of the oldest teams in Mexican soccer, born in 1923 under the nickname „The Electricians, as the team was owned by the country'sfederal electric company.
