Shakira in clear view for El Clásico between Real Madrid and Barcelona

The Colombian artist shared a snapshot during the game to show off the promotion of her new album on the billboards at the Santiago Bernabéu.

El Clásico is one of those matches with the inherent ability to captivate millions of viewers from around the world. Not only do Real Madrid and Barcelona fans eagerly tune in, but there are also neutrals who watch with less emotional investment, not favoring one team over the other.

However, nobody anticipated one high-profile spectator at this match. Shakira, previously more associated with Barça, shared through her X profile a snapshot indicating her close attention to this pivotal LaLiga battle. The Barranquilla native affirmed that the advertising billboards adorning the Santiago Bernabéu pitch provide a “good reason” to watch the El Clásico. “The banners. A good enough reason to watch El Clásico,” she wrote alongside an image of a television screen broadcasting the match.

But why did she say that?

The Colombian singer took advantage of the fact that the billboards at the Madrid stronghold were displaying advertisements for her new album, “Las mujeres ya no lloran” (Women Don’t Cry Anymore), which was released on 22 March 2024. This might mark the first time Shakira has been closely following a Madrid-Barça match since her romantic breakup with Gerard Piqué, as suggested by some fans.

The artist is keen on performing at the Madrid temple as part of her world tour in 2025. According to reports, she is rumoured to have plans for up to four performances. The dates are yet to be finalized, but it is speculated to be in June of that year.
