Shakira is on everyone's radar again. The singer from Barranquilla recently swept the board with her stellar performance at the VMAs where she was also awarded the Music Video Award 2023 for her collaboration with Karol G for 'TGQ'.
However, the Colombian singer seems far from having forgotten her relationship with ex-partner Gerard Piqué, to whom she has dedicated verses in her latest song 'El Jefe'.
Shakira has decided to venture into a new style, the Mexican corrido, with her latest hit in which she participates with the group Fuerza Regida. In this song she once again carries several hidden messages and hints.
The singer released this latest single on all platforms on Wednesday September 20 and in just a few minutes it caused a furor among fans. Her followers were quick to find references in the lyrics of the song.
In this hit, Shakira makes no bones about mentioning her ex-partner and more specifically his father, Joan Piqué.
"What irony, what madness, this is torture. You kill yourself from sunrise to sunset and you don't have a single piece of writing. They say that no evil lasts more than a hundred years. But there's still my ex-father-in-law who doesn't set foot in the grave", says Shakira's verse.
This would not be the first time that Shakira has made reference to her ex in one of her songs.
In her big hit that she released with singer Bizarrap in session #53, another direct message can also be heard to Piqué's mother, Monserrat Bernabéu, with whom many in the media have pointed out that she had a poor relationship with the Colombian singer.
"You left me as a neighbor to my mother-in-law, with the press at the door and the debt at the Treasury", can be heard in this collaboration.
