Jean-Louis Gasset’s interim managerial reign at Olympique de Marseille got off to a flying start with five consecutive victories. However, the proverbial wheels have since come off the Phocéen wagon. Four consecutive defeats leave Marseille 10 points off the UEFA Champions League places with just six games remaining. Their chances of competing in the prestigious competition are dwindling.
Gasset’s side were outplayed by Lille OSC at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Friday night. Second-half goals from Jonathan David, Rémy Cabella and Gabriel Gudmundsson gave Les Dogues a deserved 3-1 victory, which lifts them into third and above fourth-placed AS Monaco, who have a game in hand.
