Mauricio Pochettino welcomes his former side Tottenham to Stamford Bridge on Thursday as Chelsea look to build on their encouraging display against Aston Villa last time out.
The Blues found themselves two goals down in the first half at Villa Park but fought back to 2-2 thanks to goals from Noni Madueke and Conor Gallagher. Axel Disasi thought he won it for the away side but Benoit Badiashile was deemed to have fouled Diego Carlos in the build-up to the goal.
A win over Spurs would jump Chelsea up to eighth and do wonders for the Blues' aspirations of finishing in the European places. Pochettino clearly feels the team is in a good bit of form and may well fancy his chances against Ange Postecoglou's side.
«If we analyse the game, we were the better side,» Pochettino said after the draw at Villa. «I can say we deserved to win but I think it makes me very happy and pleased that we were able to perform against a team in a very good position, doing a fantastic season and to show that we can compete in this way.»
Chelsea will need to be at their best, however, and that may mean Pochettino makes a few changes for the Premier League clash. Here, football.london speculates what the Argentine may well do come Thursday evening.
Thiago Silva suffered a groin injury late in the game against Aston Villa and is being assessed. «We need to assess him after tomorrow. It is a pain in his groin, which was similar to Palace,» Pochettino told reporters on Saturday.
