Simone Inzaghi plays down Inter’s title talk after Frosinone win

Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi has, on Sunday evening, provided his take on the club’s chances of winning the Scudetto.

The Nerazzurri, of course, were back in action a short time ago, welcoming Frosinone to San Siro for a Serie A clash. Inzaghi and co. headed into proceedings desperate for all three points, after being displaced from their berth atop the table by bitter rivals Juventus.

And, when all was said and done, march on to victory is precisely what they managed, courtesy of a Federico Dimarco worldie, and Hakan Çalhanoğlu penalty.

Speaking to Dazn ahead of kick-off in Milan, Inter director Beppe Marotta caught the headlines, in revealing his opinion that Juventus, with whom he enjoyed such a successful stint, are the frontrunners for the title in Italy’s top-flight:

“I believe Juve are the favourites because they can plan the week better, but this must not be an alibi for us, if anything further motivation to create a fascinating league battle to the very end.” 

The widespread opinion, however, remains that Inter look best equipped to wrestle back the Scudetto this season, a sentiment put to Nerazzurri boss Simone Inzaghi on the back of his side’s latest victory.

But Inzaghi, too, was keen to play down such expectations, in explaining:

“As regards the favourites, there are many well-equipped teams. At the moment they consider us favourites for how we are playing, for what we are expressing. We are probably not the richest at the moment, because the last three transfer markets with me have been like this: we have always made profits, the first year of €120 million, the second of €30 million and this year we made zero despite the Champions League final.
