Following a win in the Cape Derby, an inspired Stellenbosch side will welcome in-form Cape Town Spurs in a DStv Premiership showdown at the Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday evening. The match will kick-off at 5.30 pm CAT.
CURRENT FORM
Stellenbosch walked away with a 1-0 win against Cape Town City on Tuesday and are currently occupying the second spot in the DStv Premiership, 11 points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
Prior to their victory in the derby, Stellies had drawn two matches in a row against SuperSport United and Chippa respectively.
Their opponents Cape Town Spurs are currently in a resurgence after having a dismal start to the season, picking up wins against AmaZulu and TS Galaxy recently. The Urban Warriors also managed to take a point off of Orlando Pirates on Wednesday.
Although still at the bottom of the log, Spurs are now within reach of Richards Bay with only two points separating them.
WHAT WAS SAID
Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker is pleased with the team’s performance, especially after beating Cape Town City and is expecting a difficult encounter against Spurs.
“Obviously we still have a long way to go. But our league form, I think we’ve got a really good unbeaten run currently. I think this just sets up nicely for what’s going to be another tough encounter coming Saturday [against Spurs],” said Barker.
Cape Town Spurs coach Ernst Middendorp was pleased with his side’s ability to take a point off of Pirates and the goal is to survive relegation.
“If we can make it through to stay in the league, in whichever way that’s the only target, nothing else,” he said.
