Suarez excites Inter Miami fans with hat-trick in Brazilian Serie A race
Luis Suarez is widely considered to be one of the best strikers in the sport's history. His 15-year run run that took him from Ajax to Liverpool to Barcelona to Atletico Madrid resulted in a ton of goals scored and trophies won.
At 36 years old and with knee issues regularly nagging him, Suarez isn't the same well-rounded, versatile player he used to be. But when he's in the goalscoring mood, he can still hit the back of the net like he's in his prime.
That's exactly what he did on Thursday night, when he notched a second half hat-trick against Botafogo.
This wasn't just any ordinary hat-trick either. Botafogo came into the game as the leader in the Brazilian Serie A with 59 points. They led 3-1 until the 50th minute, when Suarez struck three straight times and won the game for Gremio on the road. With the win, Gremio drew level with Botafogo at 59 points.
Although Botafogo has a game in hand and the tiebreaker over both Gremio and Palmeiras (also with 59 points), it's getting extremely tight with only six matchdays left. Red Bull Bragantino (58) and Flamengo (56) are also within three points of the top.
Suarez's stellar game should haveInter Miami supporters salivating. By nearly all accounts, Suarez will leave Gremio at the end of the season and join the MLS side.
Reuniting with Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba is a dream come true (again) for Suarez. And it looks like Miami will be getting a goal-hungry striker who can still score like the best of them.
