Ter Stegen faces Real Madrid again with new record on the horizon

Ter Stegen had little to do in PSG's Champions League thrashing of Barcelona. However, the four goals scored by Luis Enrique's side did not dampen his clean sheet streak in La Liga. He has now gone six consecutive full games without picking the ball out of his net.

Iago Aspas, back in mid-February, was the last player to beat him in the domestic competition. That strike in the 47th minute reset a tally that now stands at 583 minutes without conceding a goal, after he emerged victorious against Getafe (4-0), Athletic (0-0), Mallorca (1-0), Atletico Madrid (0-3), Las Palmas (1-0) and Cadiz (0-1).

Now, the Santiago Bernabeu outfit will test the German's attempt to break his own record, something which, coincidentally, Real Madrid prevented him from doing last term. In the first half of the season, a Karim Benzema strike 12 minutes into 'El Clasico' left a record of 636 minutes that the goalkeeper would surpass if he were to leave unbeaten against his arch-rivals.

That season, Aleksander Isak beat him after just six minutes of the Real Sociedad-Barcelona game on matchday 2. From then on, he kept back-to-back clean sheets against Valladolid (4-0), Sevilla (0-3), Cadiz (0-4), Elche (3-0), Mallorca (0-1) and Celta (1-0), meaning he reached the game against the 'Merengues' with 624 minutes without conceding.

This Sunday, he will surpass that mark if he keeps Madrid at bay until at least the 54th minute. Of the 15 La Liga games played by Carlo Ancelotti's side at home this year, in four of them they have gone goalless until that minute. They were against Rayo Vallecano (0-0), Mallorca (Rudiger in 78'), Almería (Bellingham in 57') and Sevilla (Modric in 81').
