Arsenal went back to the top of the Premier League table with a 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. The Gunners exerted supreme dominance over their visitors in the early stages and could have had the lead through a number of chances before half time, the most presentable of which fell to Gabriel Martinelli.
As it was though they would have to wait till the second half for their breakthrough as Gabriel Jesus headed home Jan Paul van Hecke's misdirected attempt to clear a corner. The game then continued in much the same fashion with Arsenal well on top, and the outstanding Martin Odegaard could have had a goal, while Ben White saw a header cleared off the line.
With the game still poised at 1-0 though Brighton remained in it and could even have equalised when Pascal Gross hit the side netting. Kai Havertz made the points safe however, just minutes from team, finishing a sumptuous counter attacking move to grab his fourth goal in six matches. Oustanding Odegaard
This may have been the first time Martin Odegaard had played on his brithday, but the quality of his performance was nothing new. The Norwegian has had a difficult season by his own lofty standards. While dealing with a hip problem and a heavy concussion, his form dropped, but those who had seen him establish himself as one of the best players in the Premier League over the past few seasons knew it would only be a matter of time before it was party time again.
