Mauricio Pochettino returns to Tottenham this evening (Monday) for the first time as Chelsea head coach. The Argentine spent five years at Spurs from 2014 to 2019, where he led the club to a Champions League final.
Tottenham have made a sensational start to the season and will return to the top of the Premier League table should they pick up all three points at home to Chelsea. Ange Postecoglou has got Spurs playing some entertaining and attacking football which has led to them also emerging as possible title contenders.
«Yes, I think so,» Pochettino responded when asked if his former club are title contenders this season. «They are doing a fantastic job. Ange and the other coaches, they are doing a fantastic job.
»Very good players, very good team and you can feel they can be a contender. It is early in the season but they are showing the quality to be a contender."
It is going to be tough for Chelsea, who were beaten last time out in the Premier League at home to Brentford. However, the Blues got back to winning ways in the Carabao Cup round of 16 against Blackburn Rovers, but Pochettino is expected to make numerous changes to his side for the trip to north London.
Robert Sanchez is set to keep his place in goal and he might need to be at his best against a dangerous and in-form Tottenham attack. Benoit Badiashile, too, could stay in the side after he impressed during his comeback from a lengthy injury last week.
