Mikel Arteta will be able to change things up concerning Arsenal's Champions League squad ahead of the round of 16 clash against Porto.
Back in September, the Gunners announced the 25 players who had been named on the club's 25-man List A squad for the group stage fixtures against Sevilla, PSV Eindhoven and RC Lens with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Cedric Soares and youngster Lino Sousa.
Having said that, Arsenal summer signing Jurrien Timber was left off the list. This wasn't too much of a surprise considering he wasn't expected to play again in 2023 — and possibly the season — after sustaining an ACL injury against Nottingham Forest on the opening weekend of the campaign.
Now, despite the fact the Dutchman was unavailable throughout the group stage, he would still be permitted to play for the Gunners from the round of 16 and onwards in the Champions League if he was to return to fitness before the January transfer window slams shut.
This is because the ruling states: 'As of the round of 16, a club may register a maximum of three new eligible players for the remaining matches in the current competition. Such registration must be completed by 2 February 2024 (24.00CET) at the latest. This deadline cannot be extended.
Amid rumours of a return to training next month, all eyes will be on this particular squad submission as that will provide a clear indication as to whether the 22-year-old plays again this campaign.
