Chelsea are believed to want to remain at Stamford Bridge amid rumours that the club are set to move away to another site as they try and expand on their future stadium plans.
There have been talks of moving away from the iconic location in West London which the club has occupied since its founding in 1905, with the new American owners reportedly looking at long-standing locations like Earls Court or elsewhere in the Fulham area.
However, Todd Boehly and company aren't believed to want to move away from their current home, and are simply weighing up their options about what to do with the future of the ground. Developing the existing land stand-by-stand would be incredibly tedious and more time-consuming than simply finding a new temporary ground in order to facilitate the knocking down of the current stadium.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the club is aware of the fan opinion surrounding the ground's redevelopment, but are believed to favour a temporary move across London as opposed to the stand-by-stand approach. The Blues did take a big step in that direction when they managed to secure a 1.2-acre plot of land next to the current site back in September which will give them much more freedom design-wise with more space now available for innovative and modern blueprints.
However, given that the Chelsea Pitch Owners (CPO) have the freehold for the Stamford Bridge stadium as well as the naming rights to Chelsea FC, it means any attempt Chelsea make at trying to move away from the current site in Fulham Broadway would be blocked unless 75 per cent of their shareholders agree to any proposed deal. Despite that, Jacobs believes it could go off without a hitch sooner rather than later.
