Tottenham braced for brand new FFP issue as Daniel Levy prepares for Premier League decision

It is almost ironic that Tottenham's 2022/23 accounts were released in the same week that they emerged that the Premier League is set to vote on changes to current financially related rule breaches. After months of criticism of the now-infamous profitability and suitability regulations (PSRs), fresh sanctions are afoot.

According to a report by the Daily Mail, following discussions in league meetings, a supposed 'luxury tax' could be imposed moving forward. On paper, it would be a totally new element to the system in place, taking it towards those used in some American sports.

The tax would come instead of salary caps — both soft or hard — and in alignment with an also revamped allowed spending structure. Currently, PSRs limit losses to £105million over a rolling three-year period for Premier League sides, but that is set to change swiftly too.

With UEFA adopting a percentage-based system that gives clubs clear parameters in line with revenue, the English system is expected to bring itself closer to this method. For Spurs, this isn't a problem.

Daniel Levy's often criticised recent running of the club as chairman has, on-field success or not, left them extremely strong financially compared to their rivals. Not only have Tottenham avoided even a scare with points deductions and charges, they were safe enough in January to actually bolster the squad too.

While the rest of the league sat back in fear of what might follow given both Everton and Nottingham Forest were being put on trial — and subsequently made to literally pay for their misdeeds — Spurs could actually look to keep improving where needed. They are not set to be bound by sales before June 30 in order to hand Ange Postecoglou additional transfers either.
