Tottenham confirmed team vs Newcastle - Bissouma and Bentancur start with no striker in squad
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has made one change to his team to face Newcastle United in the early lunch-time Premier League kick-off on Saturday.
Spurs have the opportunity to put the pressure on Aston Villa if they can get a positive result at St James' Park on Saturday, with Unai Emery's side playing at Arsenal on Sunday. To do so though, the north London outfit have to succeed at the scene of their most embarrassing defeat in recent years.
Almost 12 months ago, under the stewardship of Cristian Stellini, they collapsed to a dismal 6-1 defeat, with Newcastle scoring three goals within the first nine minutes and netting five within 21 as the visitors fell apart. With Postecoglou at the helm, Spurs did gain some revenge this season with a 4-1 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
This time around Postecoglou had to decide whether to start with his two half-time changes that turned the match against Nottingham Forest — Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur — or stick with Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr, who played well against Newcastle in the game earlier this season. In the end Postecoglou went for a mix with Bissouma and Bentancur together with James Maddison.
Dejan Kulusevski remains on the bench with Bryan Gil joining him, at the expense of Dane Scarlett. Richarlison remains out with his knee injury which means Spurs have no natural central striker in the squad.
