Tottenham must get their recruitment decisions bang on this summer to take Ange Postecoglou's side to the next level. During his first two transfer windows, the Lilywhites have brought in eight players with James Maddison and Micky van de Ven among those to quickly establish themselves in the post-Harry Kane era for Spurs.
Despite funds in the region of £150million being spent, Spurs are in need of more options in a number of positions. Squad depth and homegrown issues are the problems that must be solved over the coming trading periods and for that to happen, Postecoglou, Daniel Levy and Johan Lange face many tough calls.
Players departing is also likely to occur with Bryan Gil, Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg among those who could move on. Making those sales could provide Tottenham with further funds to spend and as the club are one of few in the Premier League that have carefully stayed on the right line of profit and sustainability rules (PSR), more money is likely available.
With that said, here are five transfers Tottenham could make that would take Postecoglou much closer to his dream squad.
For just £15million it is a bit of a no-brainer to sign Timo Werner on a permanent transfer. His poor goal output is of course a concern but what he currently brings to Spurs outweighs that, especially given it is unlikely there are many better options at that price.
Despite the complaints, the Germany international has managed two goals and three assists and is a perfectly good back-up option that can offer Postecoglou some needed squad depth, especially if European football is secured.
