Gary Lineker has shared a rather unpleasant story about Paul Gascoigne's antics in the England team's communal bath.
The two football legends played together for Tottenham and the Three Lions, most notably during Italia 90. Back then, it was common for players to share a bath after games. Gascoigne, known for his prankster personality, had a particularly vile habit that Lineker has now revealed.
«Gazza used to let one go in the big communal bath occasionally. It's not a thing anymore, but can you believe that's how it used to be in sport? At the end of the game you would be covered in mud and whatever else, and you'd all jump in a bath together,» he told Joe Lycett's appropriately-named Turdcast podcast.
Lineker described the communal bath as a large hot tub, with the only bubbles coming from people's farts. He recalled how Gazza's pranks led to quick evacuations from the bath. «You've never seen baths evacuated as quickly. Gazza always found it difficult to know where the line was. He was genuinely very funny on other occasions. He never lacked confidence to do a joke.»
However, Lineker managed to get his own back on Gascoigne during their time at Spurs. While stretching in the bath, Gazza decided to join him but ended up staying in for too long.
«At Maine Road, it was a big one. So I put the hot water on, filled it up, got in and stood there, did a few stretches of thighs, hamstring, calves. Then Gazza walked in and said 'You're always doing that, why do you do it,'» Lineker shared on The Rest Is Football podcast.
