Plymouth Argyle boss Steven Schumacher has spoken of his delight after his club signed Lewis Warrington on loan from Everton.
The Blues confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that the midfielder would spend the season on loan at Home Park. Warrington spent last term on loan at Fleetwood Town and has also spent time on loan at Tranmere in the first half of 2022.
The 20-year-old has been part of Everton’s pre-season preparations, including playing 45 minutes in the 0-0 draw against Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday night. He made his senior debut last season, coming on as a 64th-minute substitute in a 1-0 Carabao Cup tie win over Fleetwood Town.
And reacting to the signing, Schumacher was delighted that not only had his side managed to secure Warrington’s signature, but he also revealed he once coached the midfielder during his time working as a youth coach at Everton’s Academy.

He said: "I'm pleased to get Lewis in. It's a player we have liked for a long time. It's a player some of the coaching staff have known for a long time.
"He's a good footballer, has got a good footballing brain, and is technically really good. He's going to be another good addition to our squad."
Before Schumacher added: "He's a fit boy anyway. We knew that from last season. The reports that we got back from Fleetwood were that he covers a lot of ground.
"We knew that anyway as a youth player coming through the ranks at Everton. Cav (first team coach Peter Cavanagh) has worked with him, Neil (Dewsnip, director of football) has worked with him.
"I actually coached when I was trying to take my B Licence.
