European Championship squads for the 2024 tournament are set to be increased to 26 players, Mail Sport understands.
The Euros take place in Germany this summer, with 24 teams from across the continent battling it out for the right to claim the title of Europe's best team, with Italy the current holders.
Last competition saw nations name expanded squads for the first time, with previous editions seeing teams limited to 23, to better provision against the ongoing COVID pandemic.
It had been anticipated that limits would revert to normal this year, however a vote on Monday at a meeting of the UEFA national competitions committee has given the green-light for 26-player squads.
The vote does not necessarily translate to a change set in stone - UEFA's executive committee must first sanction a formal alteration to the rule - although it does indicate that 26-player squads might become a regular fixture moving forward.
The suggestion had originally been raised a fortnight ago in Dusseldorf, Germany at a meeting of national team managers.
UEFA's executive committee are not set to meet for almost a month - May 22 - although this decision could be ratified remotely.
Such an eventuality could even happen later this week, giving the likes of Gareth Southgate and Steve Clarke more notice to start putting together final squads.
Both managers have seen their sides pick up a number of injuries in recent weeks, with the competition's start now less than two months down the line.
England will be sweating over the fitness of Reece James, Luke Shaw, Nick Pope and Kieran Tripper, while the likes of Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham could see their seasons extended even further should they reach the Champions League final.
