The race to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen continues to dominate the headlines in the January transfer window but reports in Italy have claimed that Chelsea are now leading the race for his signature.
The Blues and Arsenal are both understood to be interested in the Nigeria international. Both Mauricio Pochettino and Mikel Arteta are desperate for a new striker after dealing with their own problems in their final third.
A move in the January transfer window seems unlikely after Osimhen signed a new contract in Italy. However, that hasn't put an end to any speculation surrounding the 25-year-old due to a €120million (£102m) release clause inserted into his contract.
Now, after Osimhen helped Nigeria qualify to the African Cup of Nations knockout stage, Get Football News Italy have suggested that Chelsea are leading the race for the striker. It comes after Osimhen's comments on the Premier League, where he admitted the league was one of the biggest in the world.
Speaking to CBS Sports, the former Lille man declared he has already made his mind up about the next step in his career. «I think 60% of everyone are arguing, or the rumour is going around about me linked the Premier League. But… when you are one of the hottest strikers in the globe, you play this type of thing,» he said.
«Of course, the Premier League is one of the biggest leagues in the world. Now I'm with Napoli, I signed a new contract, I'm enjoying my time there, going through it with the team.»
