Vincent Kompany is not hoping Manchester City have an off day in the Premier League curtain raiser but that his Burnley team have an unbelievable one as he bids to stop the Treble winners.
City legend Kompany takes on his former side when Pep Guardiola's team make the trip to Turf Moor on Friday evening. It will be the opening game of the new top flight campaign.
Kompany led Burnley to promotion out of the Championship last season as winners of the second tier. Their maiden game is against the Treble winners, featuring some of the best players in the world.
The Burnley boss and former City skipper is under no illusions as to the challenge his side face versus his old team. But Kompany is excited by the prospect and believes it is the best challenge possible for his team as they begin life back in the top flight.

Kompany said: “It’s a team with the best players in the world at the moment, so the way you do it is just collectively. There’s no other way. These guys, it’s collective and to hope that these guys don’t have a bad day, but that our guys have an unbelievable day. That’s the conditions you need.
“I’m excited. We play against such a good opponent, a team filled with players and people that I know, of course, but mainly it’s probably the best challenge you could ever have and ask for and I want the team to embrace this game and hopefully the fans can do the same.
“One thing is sure, our team will get better from this day all the way across the season, that’s one thing I’m sure of just because of the way we work. But we have to be ready tomorrow and that’s the reality of the job and I don’t try and assess too much where Man City are
