Chelsea have won the battle with Liverpool for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, so we simulated what could happen with the Ecuadorian in the Blues' squad
After snubbing a move to Liverpool, Moises Caicedo has completed a move to Chelsea for a British record transfer fee.
The Blues were in need of a new midfielder, with N'Golo Kante, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount having all departed the club this year. Caicedo has joined Mauricio Pochettino's side on an eight-year deal with the option of a further year as well.
So, how could Caicedo perform in the Chelsea midfield? We simulated next season with the 21-year-old in Klopp's side to find out.
To set up this simulation, we used Football Manager 2023 to arrange for Caicedo to sign for Chelsea, linking up with the squad before the Blues' clash with West Ham on the weekend. We then simulated the 2023/24 season to see what sort of impact he could have.
Caicedo was an instant hit at Stamford Bridge, with the Ecuadorian establishing himself as one of the best midfielders in the league. The 21-year-old averaged a rating of 7.34 per game whilst winning eight Player of the Match awards, the best in the Blues' squad.
With Caicedo playing so defensively, this allowed Enzo Fernandez to push further forward, and the Argentine grabbed 14 assists with the duo working well together. Caicedo himself grabbed three goals and three assists, with a highlight of his a 92nd-minute winner against Tottenham in the Premier League.
At the end of the 2023/24 season, Football Manager 23 put together an overall best Chelsea XI, based on performances, statistics and other metrics. This is what it looked like:
