David Moyes has emerged as a surprise target for Spartak Moscow amidst uncertainty over his future at West Ham United, with his contract winding down.
The Scottish manager's tenure atthe Hammers appears to be drawing to a close as his current deal is set to expire at the season's end. It's understood that West Ham have engaged in discussions with Julen Lopetegui and had Sporting CP's Ruben Amorim fly in for talks last week, though Amorim later acknowledged this was a «mistake.»
Post-season, Moyes is expected to hold conversations with West Ham owner David Sullivan, but it's widely anticipated that the club will seek a new direction, potentially concluding the 61-year-old's time at the helm. According to the Daily Mail, Spartak Moscow have reached out to Moyes following the dismissal of their former coach Guille Abascal two weeks prior.
However, Moyes is said to be holding off on any commitment to the Russian side until he has had the chance to speak with Sullivan. Moreover, a move to Russia seems less attractive given the exclusion of Russian clubs from European competitions due to the country's military actions in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the Hammers' focus may be shifting towards Lille's Paulo Fonseca, and they are also reportedly impressed by Ipswich's Kieran McKenna, whose work has put the Tractor Boys on the cusp of promotion from the Championship, reports the Daily Record.
Moyes said last week: «The most important thing is that things would need to be right between me and the club. And if we get that right then we will see what happens but it will be at the end of the season.
