With the international break well underway and two weeks between Chelsea's Premier League fixtures, the perfect opportunity to reflect has arrived. There has been no shortage of scrutiny of Chelsea's transfers both in and out during 2023 but for a long while they have been the source of discussion and debate.
From seeing the departures to failed signings to young talents some believed to have left too soon, Chelsea's transfer plans have always had both supporters and detractors. Summer and winter have always been busy times for the Blues both for the likes of Marina Granovskaia, and in the initial months of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital's ownership.
With that said, football.london takes a look at each of the players to have departed Chelsea during Thomas Tuchel's tenure at the club. There were quite a few despite the German head coach overseeing just three transfer windows.
Marco van Ginkel — The perennially injured midfielder returned to the Netherlands to join PSV having already twice won the Eredivisie title during loan spells with the club. He made 55 appearances across two seasons with the Dutch side and appeared in Europe before moving to his first club, Vitesse, in 2023. He has captained the side in seven of the eight fixtures and started all-but the first match of the season.
Jamal Blackman — The goalkeeper was a regular member of the loan army and never made an appearance for Chelsea before he made the move to Los Angeles FC in Major League Soccer. He played the final eight matches of theh 2021 season before departing the club. Six months at Huddersfield followed before a one-year deal at Exeter City. He then moved to Burton Albion where he started the season in goal but has since lost his place.
