More details of Leo's hamstring injury appear in unconfirmed report
The mystery surrounding Lionel Messi's injury troubles continued as the Argentinian missed yet another MLS game for Inter Miami on Saturday. The club has officially released verylittle information about Messi's status, but in the meantime, a new report on social media has rattled even the most hopeful fans.
The unconfirmed injury report comes from Miami-based journalist Caden DeLisa on X. DeLisa's scoop from an unnamed source was that Messi «sustained a 2 cm hamstring tear, confirmed via MRI, likely shutting him down for the remainder of the MLS season.»
In follow-up posts, DeLisa clarified that the injury began as a hamstring strain that came while Messi was playing for Argentina against Ecuador. After sitting the next two games, one for Argentina and one for Inter Miami, the No. 10 aggravated the same muscle in his return against Toronto FC, resulting in the small tear.
DeLisa was also sure to note that this injury does not rule out Leo for the season for certain. Depending on his recovery progress and time table, the club will have the ultimate decision on whether he plays again before Inter's final MLS match on October 21.
Inter Miami is currently 13th out of 15 teams in the MLS Eastern Conference standings. The top nine teams earn a chance at the MLS Cup in the MLS Playoffs. Miami has 33 points, 4 behind 9th place, with a game in hand. Inter's remaining MLS opponents are: Chicago Fire, FC Cincinnati and Charlotte FC (twice).
