But the mood outside Anfield in the build-up to this FA Cup fourth round tie against Championship side Norwich City wasn’t quite one of the usual expectation and excitement at another chance to watch this developing Liverpool side in action.
The bombshell news Jurgen Klopp will leave his role as Reds manager at the end of the season hasn’t entirely been fully digested by even the most causal observer, let alone those who have paid their hard-earned to watch his team play every other week for the last eight years or so.

Indeed, the announcement was such a surprise the official matchday programme made no mention of his imminent departure, with deadlines meaning it had gone to print before the decision became public.
Given his insistence on business as usual, it was perhaps exactly as Klopp would have wanted matters. It was, though, a bit of a stretch to expect his imminent departure to pass completely unnoticed by those present.
That said, there wasn’t anything particularly different with the reception Klopp and his backroom staff received when they trotted out for their usual pre-match warm-up around 45 minutes before kick-off in front of the few thousand fans already inside Anfield.
